My journey as an artist began as a kid – always creating something or drawing in my free time. My art teachers at school became my mentors, who inspired me to earn my degree in Studio Art with a concentration in ceramics from Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana, and then attending Ohio Dominican University to become a P-12 Visual Arts Educator. After years of visiting the Bay Area, I made the big move from Columbus, Ohio to San Francisco in 2022 to make it my new home.
Here at Woodside School, I hope to build students' artistic skill set, cultivate their creativity, and inspire artistic appreciation. I plan to continue our treasured traditions while creating new ones to make our students' art experiences memorable and impactful. Philosophy An art curriculum is a perfect way for young students to learn about the world, express their ideas, and develop their sense of self. My philosophy as an art educator is to facilitate a curriculum based on art movements – historical and current – while exploring materials, generating original ideas, and problem-solving.
As Woodside’s art teacher, I plan to celebrate our creations with displays and events in our school community, collaborate with classroom teachers to plan cross-curricular projects, and coordinate projects with the local community to bring our artwork into the world. I encourage positive energy and playfulness in the classroom to keep students engaged and inspired while maintaining a kind and creative environment for students to feel at home in the art room.
